Why did Jesus have to die?

"According to the law, almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission. —Hebrews 9:22"

Hebrews 9:22 teaches us a fundemental tenet of Jewish law and explains why the Messiah had to die as told by the prophets. In ancient times the priest used to sacrifice sheep and goats as a substitute for us. Because of sin we deserved to die, but the animals took our place. Isaiah 1:11 states, "'To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices to me', says the Lord. 'I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fed cattle. I do not delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs or goats.'" This is why Jesus is often called the Lamb of God. He was our substitute. Jesus was the blood sacrifice for our sin, but we cannot claim to have made the sacrifice unless we acctually beleive that he was the Messiah, the Son of God.

Have you accepted Jesus, the Lamb of God, as your Savior from sin?
